The Choice Episode 3 – Team Vision

Day One

Day One – Aftermath

Greetings loved ones! So here we are: Chapter three still going strong and still in lockdown. For the sake of Anthony’s sanity I have taken the tables out of the document and instead put in the things that you have to do after an area. If you are doing an investigate or similar I have stopped with the different ways of doing things and the other new thing is “Nearby Area”, a nearby area is one that you do not have to spend fate points to reach. So: Just let me know what you are doing and I will take that on board. Have fun

Description

The Keep is alive and busy once more, now is the time to move on: Briskly, smartly and with a touch of the old days you begin your routines. Your intention? Minimise control to the available crew and make the preparations to complete the work that Dazak set out before you, but first the Aftermath of the visit of the Spectres needs to be dealt with.

Malak, Tess and Honest John gathered around Arthas flooding their powers down and into him and focussing on the core of him, seeking an answer to his memories and the moment that had enveloped him as he had served as a conduit for their powers. They could feel the prayer still reverberating through drawing the last vestiges of power away from the birthplace of humanity and filling the Keep with its life.

“There’s an Oath here,” said John, “Left over maybe? But it’s wrapped around other Oaths like they make a garb and the Oath that’s left over like the sheath twine that holds them together. But the Oath isn’t his, ‘s’like he borrowed it from somewhere else or someone else?”

Malak agreed: “This is an Oath of allegiance, but twisted in someway to bring and suffering to the one that carries it. A burden, a terrible burden that sits like a chain around his soul and up until recently that chain was held by another. Whispering a compulsion deep into the very fabric of his being…..wicked compulsions…..” his voice trailed off……

“It’s changed though,” said Tess, standing up and scratching a few notes into an already overfilled note book covered in equations and archer doodles. “In the moments that the prayer finished the ‘Chain”,” she air quoted, “entered a moment of contest for ownership, like the previous owner of the chain had allowed the power to come here and intended to yank it back, like Arthas was a dog. BUT, here,” She indicated the Keep with an expansive wave of hand. “is a place of Oaths, like where really hard Oaths were made to a cause: The War. Looks like the Keep has taken on the Oaths, wrested them away from the original owner and……” She shrugged.

“Locked them away for ‘is own sake I’d say,” continued John, “that parts that doing him damage the Keep’s taken, She’s claimed it for ‘erself ‘cause that’s what she does: She protects us. She must have taken a part of ‘is story with it though what’s causing the memory loss. So he’s gained a link a connection to the Keep and what’s at the heart of her, her story: War Stories.”

Malak took up the conversation again: “That connection, that is what I can feel, a sharing of him and Her, an empathy to the heart of her. Through him the weaver could connect with her? Seek her guidance and the truth of her?”

Carefully, slowly, Tess worked her way through the innards of the explosives that she had trained to disarm after too many encounters during the wars. She referred often to the diagrams that Mathias had prepared for her whilst keeping a careful eye on NAV. The last part would be difficulty but not impossible, the engineer had rigged this pretty well but with all but the last pin pulled she nodded at her friend at the Massport controls. NAV registered quickly and selected a lock onto the bomb part of the device, beaming it into space where it exploded safely.

The three of them gathered around the device and examined it for some time, peering at its internals before reporting Mallory. “It’s a communications device,” explained Mathias, “explicitly designed to communicate with the other fate and it’s working. Theoretically we can open communications and send a message to whoever is on the other end……” He left the statement floating

Mallory and Mathius had gone to great pains to make sure that they had full access to Dr Lionsgold’s lab and specifically his analytical equipment. When they had popped the cork on the ancient bottle it had quickly filled the room with a pungent aroma that they could smell even through the Plaguemantles provided for them by the Doctor. Drawing a number of samples they began their extensive testing, seeking the compounds that would give them the answers that they sought. Dr Bees joined them making suggestions for compounds and catalysts to use to bring forth an answer.

After some hours Mallory slumped in a chair and reached up to his mask, it had been bothering him all day but he was a sensible man and knew that wearing the mask would keep him and others safe. The smell of the potion mixed with the herbs within was cloying buty now he was safe to take it off. As he did so he noticed that the lingering odour of the now closed potion and recognised a smell, a strong pungent tang that he associated with life on the front line. Quickly he gathered up the materials needed to make the appropriate test and redonning his mask completed his test, nodding as his findings were confirmed:

“It’s beer,” he said “I’d say a stout to be specific, preserved for Gods knows how long. Smells good and potent……”

The team sensed forward with their skills finding a veritable minefield of fractures in the fate lines making it difficult for Tess and Mathias to navigate. Their concentration was intense but they managed to reach the room and peer within, their words translated to paper by NAV who stood waiting nearby; they spoke in tandem:

“A body, on the floor by the Massport beacon, another near the RADIO grill. The Massport Controls are badly damaged, something is attached to them, a device, mechanical, it is fully linked within. Three cells at the far end. Two are open. Red cell still closed. There is a tearing in the grill work along one wall, large enough for people to enter into the framework of the ship.”

Arthas, stood smartly to attention as he gave his plan for scouring the ship for changes, seeking any form of discrepancy as Tess made notes and Honest John tuned his guitar. It was a detailed and thorough plan that would take about six hours to exact starting in the most likely places. Towards the end he had started to use a short stub of a pencil from the nearby side illustrate areas of the ship. Honest John had started to strum now and Arthas’ calm snapped a little, he walked over to speak to him.

“I appreciate your need to practice but I am trying to give a brief and you need to pay attention: Changes to the ship could be anywhere.” He brandished his stub to emphasise: “ANYWHERE!” The stub slipped from his fingers and fell through the strings into Johns Guitar.

“Thanks!” Sardonicised John. “This things been sounding weird all day that pencil ain’t gunna help.” He rolled his eyes and started to fish out the pencil until a surprised look came across his face and he pulled out not only but a pencil but also a small envelope bulging with paper. It was labelled in a familiar hand: “Changes due to rebirth”

“I found an anywhere thing he said, in Tess’ hand writing.” He handed it to her and she turned it over. On the back in a handwriting much more familiar to her were the words. “Love you sweetheart”. He hadn’t even used an exclamation mark, shivering she tore open the envelope to read what was inside before anyone could stop her.

Afterwards Tess went to the stub of pencil that Arthas had been using and compared it to the fresh one she was using to write in her note book. They were the same, she was sure of it, so she decided to save the new one for later and went on using the stub.

Malak triggered the sequence as Honest John waved goodbye to his friends, his smile turning to a shout of warning as the console in front of him burst into flame. Red warning lights hummed into life and a golden red glow flickered around their forms. John managed a few chords, trying lock onto their forms as they vanished as Malak hammered the recall switches but they were gone and all on the bridge was quiet.

Tess, NAV, Mathias, Arthas, Chief Evans and Mallory appeared in the Massport area of the Brigg as the consoles in front of them exploded as the device rigged into them blew apart releasing the magic that was kept inside it into the world. Some form of Fate attached to the world of the Red Keep poured into the space, destroying all around it drawing forth the matter of this world and drawing into the world beyond. The keep shuddered as the explosion tried to grow, the nearby bulkheads beginning to buckle under the intense pressure of the blast.

Tess had come through first and tendrils of wicked intent lashed out drawing her directly into the heart of the Maelstrom. She screamed as her fate began to unravel, the days of her story collapsing from this moment and back to her beginning. Mallory stepped forward, she was out of his grasp but he could still save the others; behind him a line of heroes stepped forward from his aura shields together with him at the centre of the line. A tendril for each snaked out to strike against the gifts of ages, trying to end the fate that empowered them and reach his comrades that sheltered behind him. Mallory had fought things like wrinkles before, he side stepped a weaving, thrashing tentacle and reached out a hand to reach for Tess.

Across the far side of the chamber Archie glided into view, his being glowing with the light of Oaths and futures, furious and endless and in a moment he was by Mallory the light forcing the foes back into another worlds Fate. “Not me,” Mallory shouted, “Save her.” Archie redoubled his efforts and glanced across at Mallory all sadness and regret. “I can’t Mallory, it’s too late, this is her end, but the moment has been prepared for.” Pushing with all of his might Mallory joined Archie reaching out to try to pull Tess back from the closing bubble of power as Archie closed it down. His fingers brushed the tips of hers and for a second he thought he had her but the bubble closed and her silhouette was outlined by the power of the Oath Magic and then all was silent.

And Tess was gone, her story erased, her tale never told.

Mallory turned to Archie, he was calm; “I know she’s not gone,” he said pointing to where she had stood, “I can remember her. When her fates destroyed it changes, she can’t be gone, we would have forgotten her being destroyed but I saw that. She’s safe, somewhere.”

Archie raised his right hand, palms stretched to the heavens and from it she appeared, in her engineers overalls, wrench in hand and poised, as if for battle. “The Oaths that she made are still with us.” He spoke to them, “They prevent another Tess, most likely from this Red Reality from becoming a part of this one and they allow us to remember what she stood for. But in all other senses she is gone.” He cast his eye over them. “Her loss cannot end this we must continue, I will seek a way for her return at the earliest opportunity, I hold her Oaths and Dazak has returned people with far less.” He hurries you to the bodies.

Honest John sat with Arthas turning his guitar over and over in his hands, trying to connect with the harmony of the keep and its story. Hers was an old tale and it was in pain, it had been in pain before they even arrived, thought John. Dazaks death had shaken the old girl up and made here angry so she’d tried to fight back and Archibald had hurt her and tried to kill her crew. So she had tried to protect them and in response she had lost her engineer. John got it and he stood up, he felt the same. “Not today Arthas, sorry, she’s in too much pain, I’m in too much pain. S’not your fault, we just can’t.” He began to sing the ballad of the Line, dwelling on Tess, he played on through the day as the old ship wept its tears in to space.

Dazaks tiny ship detached itself from the bulk of the Grey Keep, its engines flaring as it purchased distance between itself and its docking position. NAV and Mathias steadied her as she beelined her way across the blackness and vastness of space and towards the Moon in all her beauty. Seconds before impact they activated the Temporal engines and space erupted around them and as they shifted across the reality of the cosmos to a different time and different place.

The Comet loomed ahead of them, huge and empowering, surrounded by a miasma of fire and mystery and trailing dust into the universe behind it. It filled the viewports of the ship, proud and majestically staring down on them like an ambivalent ruler of space. Across the bridge of the ship warning lights flared as systems immediately began to fail and Archie moved to the front of the ship moving NAV to one side. “This isn’t supposed to be happening,” he said calmly: “It looks like the fluctuations in the Hasseran modulators are very different when harvesting Nexian fallout in space.” He turned to another console. “This isn’t good, everything is shutting down, including life support,” he turned to them. “I’ll swing by as soon as I get a chance to get this fixed, shouldn’t be too long, just don’t do anything bad.” He waved an arm and the Massporter flared into life before they could complain or say anything else.

They stood in a darkened chamber with golden illumination and a sequence of shadowed niches that concealed something recessed in the darkness in the western wall. At either end of the room were doors made of some elaborate azure inlaid metal, the Northern one slightly ajar and emanating a strange sound as of steel scraped across wire. Keeping careful watch on the North door Mallory signalled to Arthas to do the same to South and both took up ancillary positions by at the end of the niches crouching to avoid detection by whatever may lurk behind the doorways. The rest of the group spread, furtively between the alcoves examining each in turn. There were eight in total, each about three feet in height and containing almost identical contents with a number of clear discrepancies.

The majority contained a sphere of ash and dust perpetually in motion, each mote tumbling over each other for infinity. Perhaps once they had made a whole but now they were a ruin, a semblance only of the orb that they once had been. Sparks of energy or power could occasionally be seen but there was no longer any power here. Beneath each lay remnants of something once wrought, worked as though by hand, its husk turned to a slag of the metal it had once been. This was true for all save the fifth, the seventh and the Eighth.

The Fifth’s ashes floated in obscene chaos throughout the niche, torn apart and scattered band beneath them were the remains of metal wrought but also what seemed like enormous chains depicted in miniature and destroyed beneath. The Seventh was still whole although the orb that hung there was crisscrossed with thousands of fractures through which a glowing power could be discerned a colour that defied definition and distorted the understanding that one might have of the world. Raised sections on the orb looked vaguely familiar to the observer but they were constantly obscured by puffs of white smoke that circled the orb. At the base of this was a crafted metal anvil, forge and hammer of small size which seemed to radiate a power.

The last contained the Grey Keep, floating in miniature, it appeared in the blackness of the night surrounded thousands of pinpricks through that ebony curtain. Directly behind it and to its right was a great silver disc, looming it.

This being the cause of the strange noise that he had heard outside, the chains had kept the being imprisoned for some time and showed no signs of giving.
The woman is garbed in strange robes which cling like wraps to her body, tight across the stomach and the thighs and at the wrists. They are bright in their yellows and oranges and banded with intense blue, cerulean shimmering from the strange glow that permeates the walls.

The Wedding

As you witness the words of Tess and Jack speak their vows, mainly different from the ones that you remember being at their wedding, they sprung to life, coiling from the two lovers and become as one. It was called into the Living Oath that currently inhabits the form of Dirk Lionsgold before Serbasel and The Grayson stepped forward to direct it. Both of them being Oathsmiths in their own right they sent it to the place that it was meant to be. Their words become the power of Magic, potentially of this Duchy, the power of Oaths and promises which had kept this world safe since the humanity was created by the Gillieabad.

Those words are recorded here for completeness.
Tess:
In the middle of a War, Love is the only thing that you can really look to for inspiration. It gives you hope, and the problem with hope is that it’s hard to resist.

When we met, I didn’t know that you would ever see me the way that you do now. You made me carry a box around after you, and then most of your clothes if I remember correctly.

I think besotted is a good word for it… Now, look how far we’ve come. Look at everything we’ve done. We’ve saved things, built a life, lost people. We’ve had our days on the ground, and our nights in the sky, and I have been the happiest I have ever been.

I’ve watched you laugh, I’ve watched you die. Normal people would just say cry, but there is nothing normal about wrenching the love of your life from the jaws of death time and again. Especially when they are flinging themselves in front of monsters for you.

You’ve seen me cry more times than I would care to count, and yet you are still here saving my life over and over. I have never wanted anything more than this. I will never want anything else than this. I promise you, Jack Spears, I will always be with you, we will always be together. I promise you, Jack Winter, that this love will never end.

I promise you, by any name, by the laws of Time and Fate, the Pantheon of the Basin, the Gillieabad, the Nexus and the Astral, and by my very being, that I will follow you across the sky to new worlds to see if we can find a good adventure, and then come home to the peace only old libraries can bring.

All the days of our life, no matter where we are.

I love you.
Jack:
I cannot imagine a point in the life that I have led which would not have been made better by Tess being in it.

Most people don’t understand how a bloke like me could ever win the ‘eart of a posh bird like Tessica, but she believed in me and gave me a chance to be myself, a little bit Spears and a little bit winter. What means that I can say stuff like this:

Tess Gearsmith: For a long time I have thought that you were the most wonderful person that I have met. You are so clever it swells my heart to hear you use your beautiful voice to fill the world with all the wisdom that you have dedicated your tremendous self to. You walk with so much joy and carry so much passion in your perfect soul that I am made a wealthy man by its generosity and an honest one its sincerity.

It has been the deepest honour of my life to love you this far, my Thessaly and I swear upon that honour that I will stand side by side with you as we seek the challenges of our life. When you need someone to rest against after your wonder has wearied you I will be there, when you wish someone to listen to the stories of your life I will listen to you. When you grow tired of the battle and need someone to take the fight to our enemies I will stand against them. To live with you, to love with you, to make a life and a family with you as we stand and fight for a better world against anyone that turns up and means it and ergo you harm and no-one messes with my wife.

Day Four

Greetings loved ones. Everything is sliding into place and after another sequence of difficult days a lot of real life positives have been achieved and I am feeling a lot more energised. THIS will be the last return of the week but the following parameters will be true for the end of this week and then going into next:

    • I will complete this return
    • We will run a Saturday Special
    • You can send back this return by Saturday night
    • That return will be the kick off by midday of Monday
    • We will then return to normal writing

It is tricky for Mallory to get his fingers into the space without cutting himself and causing his own blood to fall onto the stone within. It seemed to move toward him as his digits danced into the area that would allow him to examine the blade properly. He frowned and called upon his reserves of mental stamina awakening his thoughts to the artifice as his understanding grew and his examination began in earnest.

The blade was not held in place by any physical machinery that he could see and instead seemed to hover in position, undoubtedly that magic maintained by a small silvered disc that sits a few inches away from it. It glows with a dull light whenever the blade is propelled and that occurs whenever your hand is put towards the area to open the door. It would seem that the blade will attempt and undoubtedly succeed in attacking any unwary appendage that comes near to it.

The blood would spill down into the area below where a strangely familiarly symbol can be seen, waiting for that blood to fall.

Malak placed his hands together and offered his prayers to the Goddess before he focussed the power that she provided for him into the man that stood before him: Mallory dipped deep into the power of the Astral and found the mechanisms ahead of him. Gently he teased open a circular sequence of grilled metals over a tiny niche revealing an area where a object might slide. A Key? Presumably or an object that may as well be a key. Stretching further with his powers he flowed his mind into either side of the key hole seeking to trigger the mechanisms that held the door in place.

Slowly, gently, turning cogs and folding levers until he reached the conclusion of his magics and nodded to the waiting assembled. Then he released some of his power causing the sequence that would open the door to trigger. All machinery tumbled into place and the blade within the area began to spin and twist as though seeking the flesh of whomsoever had triggered the lock so that it could claim their blood. Below the strange symbol shuddered in anticipation, Mallory could feel in his mind the seeking and need within it. However the door did not open and both the blade and the symbol remained active, it would seem that blood was the key and final factor in the opening of the door.

The lock remains open

The Agrymyr of the door was old, for sure, Mallory had some knowledge of Agrymyr and had seen “old” things before and this was something that came with that age. A thorough examination of the it showed that the metal had been worked in one piece with faint markings left behind as though something had been worked again atop it. Similar perhaps to taking rubbings from a piece of parchment that had impressions from the sheet before although he could not make them out, running his fingers over the door something was there he just could not quite make out what. Whatever they were they crackled under his finger tips, power was here, from elsewhere as though these imprints were all that could physically manifest from their point of origin.

With regards its opening, flaws and weaknesses, Mallory could see none, it was as though the crafter could not make error in its creation. In all his studies Mallory could find no rhyme or reason as to why the door had shown him what was within and that was not to be blamed on the door and more upon the object that was within. He and others, had been in the presence of it before and it had made promises to them about worlds beyond this one and a future of peace and unity out among the stars. That connection and that promise is what showed them the way, Oaths and Promises, he ran his hand across the surface of the door again. How fare did they go back, he wondered?

Mathias’ experiences in the world of the crafting were less than he would have wanted but his knowledge was encyclopaedic, NAV on the other hand was much more hands on than her counterpart bringing the answers that they sought swiftly and succinctly to the fore. The Forge was made of strange conceptual pieces that were in some places wood and in others steel, here and there tiny fragments of glass, some circular, others square or oblong marred the surface of the object. Both felt a familiarity with it but it was Mathias who stepped back to hold his hands up in front of them, manipulating invisible objects back and forth as he squinted at the forge. Finally he turned to NAV: “It’s the keep. Not the actual Keep but the parts of it all mashed up into one, the forge is the Keep but across them, the shapes, like pyramids….”

The Anvil and hammer were more obvious to them once that had moved in close to examine them: The Anvil as Iron, hard and unyielding and across it in excruciating miniature were carved the tiny figures of hundreds of thousands of tiny people. They filled every space, some kneeling or cowering in fear abject whilst others stood tall and proud, supportive of their structure. The Hammer seemed bizarre in its construction: The head was wisdom, clear and plain, the hammer of Dazak North but the handle was a long blade, a sword that had no haft, to hold this hammer would be to harm oneself.

Of the world itself: Mathias reached out with is divinity to sense what was occurring within, feel out with his strength and what he found their startled him. The world was hugely disharmonious, the power of focus was waning as it tried to stretch itself globally around the world. It found no purchase with the other magic’s there or at least so little that it could not exist alongside them. As part of the whole it was failing, it had replaced another older powere but was not bridging the gap between the two well enough. Something within the world was bracing itself against those powers trying to push its way out from where it was, destroying the magic from the inside out. The magic was weakening and it could not hold for much longer but the power that was coming, the red power to replace it, that was strong enough, but the cost seemed high.

Calling on the power of the Oaths NAV sent her power spiralling forward through the magics of the very Nexus in which they stood, reaching out to the Oath speaker of her time, awakening her mind with the strength of the historians and academics of their age. The Fifth world was once the home of the Kaytarr a world of prisons and prisoners and the original point that historians have come to believe that the Nexus came from this world, that this was its point of origin. That this a world in which the Dragons and the Angelus came to war and battle, seeking a way to the heart of the world that was protected.

Recent tales indicate that the battle tore the world apart as they sought whatever was imprisoned within that centre. The world was dying but someone or something had come with the chains of Agrymyr that they wrought to the core of the planet and attached to the fragments of the Fifth as it began to break apart keeping it in place. This world, it is said was pure Arcana stone and that it was made so because the Gillieabad of that world had sacrificed themselves unto it and created the power as their last line of defence. Whether there is truth in that is unknown but if there is truth there then these tiny chains are, indeed, Agrymyr.

The Grey Keep was perfect and Mathias should know, he had seen it from the outside as the Wasp tumbled end over end and NAV died within. The damage, the repairs, the part of the keep that was missing that was Dazaks ship, this WAS the keep that they had left behind. He pointed this out to NAV and she used her powers of Distant Sight to peer within and confirmed that this was indeed their Keep, describing in great detail the movements of their bridge crew as they moved about completing repairs and preparing themselves for the return of the away team. She traced her fingers through the air seeking any sign of movement out and around the orb but could see none at all. Together they delved further seeking answers.

The white disc was the Moon, clearly then, but its power was apparent even from here and why the Keep had travelled there. That white, silvery glow that encompassed the Keep was full of nurturing magic, protecting the integrity of the Fate of the mighty edifice. Whilst it was within the light of Congal Claen it was preserved but no doubt Archibald would know this and eventually would locate the Keep and perhaps even damage the purity of the Moon. The Keep itself seemed to have undergone a healing process in the light, the damage that they had been experiencing clearly a matter of the Fate crossover was nearly healed. How long they would last outside the light of Moon, they could not say but perhaps there would be no need for such a respite again but it seemed unlikely.

The discs below were representations of Jack and Tess’ Wedding rings which still thrummed with the power of the Oaths that were made. They were, if everything else about the other niches was correct, a representation of the power of the world that involved the Keep. The Keep, it had been proven, had become its own world, perhaps a lifeboat, perhaps a Duchy which meant that the Oath Magic of these rings and the power within them belonged to Keep. Whether they were joined yet was unknown, although given the action of the keep over the last decade or so it was surely a safe bet that they were.

Description

There it was again, thought Mathias, a gentle rumble of power that he could feel through his boots, he wasn’t sure how long he had been experiencing it. The excitement and trepidation of being aboard the comet may have overwhelmed his senses and meant that he missed it. He told the others and they all felt it, some of them touching the floor or the walls to experience the vibration first hand. After a few moments, Mallory turned to the others: “It’s like a heartbeat, slow rhythmic pulse and like nothing I have ever heard of on the comet.”

As they waited to enter the room beyond Mathias took the opportunity to examine the Background Converters. Sieving through the initial readings he noted three things of interest: Firstly that they were building power in all realms of power at an equal rate. Secondly that each increase was coinciding with each of the heartbeats that they had experienced. Finally and potentially most interestingly the power levels at the top end were all wrong: Mathias had been aboard the keep as its Head of invention and he had seen all manner of Gillieabad magics. This. This magic here…This was Gillieabad magic but Gilieabad magic plus; purer, more powerful, like breathing in the life of the very universe. Unusual.

Mallory observed Arthas as he skilfully glided into the room beyond, alert to the dangers that might leap from any of the corners of the chamber. The room was strange, it felt as though he were entering it from any number of angles each one as impossible as the last. For a moment he felt that his balance and perhaps even his mind under the unusual nature of the chamber. Instinctively he closed his eyes, in one action removing the threat of overwhelming senses but also denuding him of a preffered method of identification and acceptance. The nausea vanished almost instantly allowing him to take more tentative steps into the area, that he had seen, house the Quazarian. But there was more to it than just the simple object in a basic room. So much more; he brought the visual memories of the room sharply into focus.

The room was a perfect Heptagon: Seven walls on an immensely grand scale. Each one, now that he comprehended what he had seen, around 50 feet in length and housing bas relief carvings of the most unusual yet familiar design: Arches were emblazoned across the closest to his left and then rolling to his right, Sceptres, Crowns, Swords and Armour, Chess Pieces, Chains and finally Rings. As he moved carefully forward he could taste it in the air, smell it somewhere around him; clear, almost audible olfactory acknowledgements. Iron, Salt, Blood, Ash, Gold, Glass and Silver, all the old fragrances doing their rounds.

Suddenly his hands found the shape of Quazarian, it was solid, real, more real and whole than anything that he had encountered in his life and as he touched it he felt the completeness of his self, his potential and his ability. His eyes snapped open and he looked back at the door which seemed far distant, very far distant, Mallory almost a distant memory struggling to see him and he realised that his companions would have difficulty making the journey that he had just made. Perhaps he could help them cross….

Day Seven

Greetings loved ones! As ever, after careful planning, a weekend of “stuff” meant that I couldn’t even get to the Saturday event. Many apologies but there we go! I will roll on with stuff today as I can but suffice to say that this is much harder to maintain then it was at the start of the lockdown!

Description

Watching Arthas through the doorway was mind bending, almost impossible when they considered what seemed like basic dimensions. There was some growing terror in the understanding that the mind saw the simplicity of the room but also identified that the position Arthas held in it, relative to the door, was impossible. Watching him turn to face a, hitherto, unseen and unprecedented location but aware that his eyes were focussed on them alone. Tearing the eyes from the scene those that remained returned their attention to the strange humming and perhaps where it could be found.

Malak was poised in the perfect moment of his art; kneeling, hands apart and raised in reverence to the Goddess as he teased her strength into the chamber of the Nexus and further on into the comet. There was no concern in his soul as to how the power of his deity was reaching him here in this different frame of time, he had faith, not just in Yarrianne, but the Keep and the people that were responsible for her and her construction. The manifestation of peace and power was bound to come forward, this he knew, this WAS belief in the unity of life: It was universal, tied up in all the working parts of the Lady’s universe. As he opened his eyes and looked into the heart of the Nexus, seeking that life, that heartbeat that faith was shaken, just slightly, just in the everso at the sight of a slick back cat vanishing into the shadows, the hint of a smile in its eyes.

Malak had been selected for this task after several efforts to seek the truth of the power by his companions and the idea that he life that was hidden here was best suited to a Yarrianite to discover. They had each boosted his gifts in some small or deep way, their curiosity in the matters of understanding overcoming there need to preserve their resources. Navs modest Sourcererous powers provided a link to the Nexus of their time whilst Mallory provided a crossover between all five realms of the basic powers. Mathius had walked Malak through the core principals of the findings that were guiding him through his investigation. Armed with this power; Malak had no difficulty in diving the truth.

What they were hearing could be mistaken, easily, for the sound of a heartbeat which was, essentially, what they had believed but there was more here. This was the power of the Nexus, whatever that might exactly be, as life, specifically life in utero. It was being reforged before being reborn, defined by the sound of this heartbeat constant and unending but it was not one heart it was two. One weak and near death but alive and bound to the other which was strong, full of love and beating for the both of them. They were tied together by a strong union of Oaths and Promises a power that would go forth and become the power one day of Vaklam itself, this power bound in bands, circles and rings. He could sense that future, that power as it circled the world over and over again in the same was as the binding that made the power of the Oaths real…..

Yes, I can hear you.
We have located the Quazarion and are asking questions of it.

The Quazarion has told us that a being we have discovered, imprisoned, is Morrama Marrie, of the Sisterhood of the Seven. As well as some information about her.

We are planning on asking about the Comet itself, and about The Golden Masks – as Malak has been instructed to make one.

We have a whole list of questions, and various objects to examine. But no idea if we are under any time constraints.

If it’s practical, I think we could do with you over here – that we could really benefit from your input and advice.

If not, can you let us know how long we can be on the Comet before needing to return?

The RADIO crackled a return

Times not on our side Mister Prime Minister, I am afraid to say that unless we leave in the next few minutes we will not be leaving at all. This is the comet which, I am afraid to say, will become Archies version of the keep if the reality goes his way. We don’t want the comet starting OFF red now do we? One more pass is all you got before my presence here draws his eye to us and then we really are in trouble. Get ready for portation, whatever Dazak wanted there, you better have it, otherwise we are all in trouble…..

Day Nine

Greetings loved ones! Thank you for your patience: Life is, if anything, even more fraught this week so from now on I am just going to play it by ear. I opened this document at 10am on Monday morning and the first time I have had to look at it is 14.20 Monday afternoon. Anyway!

Description

Archie’s stark warning polarised the group and they flung themselves into action, seeking a way to gain as much knowledge as they could before he ported them out of harm’s way and returned them to the present day.

You step forward and speak words to the device that is the Quazarian, seeking knowledge of the woman that is imprisoned some chambers beyond. As each one of you steps forward you feel a seeking familiarity as of a parent with their child. There is a love and a compassion with that feeling and a sense of family that touches each one of you creating a circle of love and kindness. In a voice that you each hear as one of someone that calms you, someone from your life as they speak each of your names, your true and full names, out allowed. You look to each other startled but you are aware that only you heard your names and no-one else did. As your hands come into contact with the strange material of the device you feel its warmth flow into you and the aches and pains of the world slip away as you make your enquiries

The voice rings out across the chamber getting lost in the unusual curvature of the walls or deflected by unseen pockets of time that were waiting to happen:

Mallory licked his lips, heavily aware of the time that they had remaining to them and spoke, Arthas beside him and fragment of the device clutched, to the Quarzarian. “We’ve been told we need Pure Gold, Green and Blue Arcana stone. We’ve also been told we only have minutes before we are teleported off the comet, as our enemy will be looking for us and the longer we stay in one place & time the more likely it is we’ll be found.” He took a breath but the device spoke to him in the same voice as it had earlier but within it there was different tone, something at the edge of his sanity whispered there:

“You are to ask for the special/temporal jump co-ordinates to take you to the comet just post its landing so that you may travel there and collect the materials that you will need to make a mask of your own. Further you intend to ask me to ensure that the materials that are needed alongside the Arcana Stone are secured by myself and held until such time as they are collected from the Grey Keep. All of these things are possible Mallory and I would be happy to oblige you but you are not taking into account the fractal nature of the convergence of fate nor the actions of the Mora Mari in the Timeline that is your future and the actions of the people of Bulceephar.” The Quazarian paused in its speechmaking, producing instead a visual sea of images around the assembled Visions. Images of the universe and the journey of the comet through it appeared with startling acuity among them along with seven clear trajectories that would see the comet arrive at its destination.

As the Quazarian spoke so the image played out, as if in some magical theatre, showing the course that was explained and the outcomes it might have: “The course of this vehicle was planned to arrive in a place of remembrance, deep below the waves, that would allow a greater teaching of the world. The route was never destined to encompass the alterations that were initially put into place by the Mora Mari who relocated the landing site to what is now considered to be the Land of the Chosen although it would be more accurately called the Chosen place of Landing.” As it spoke the path become but one and careened into a part of the Universe containing four distinct worlds, so close to each world did the Nexus past that the atmosphere of each raged and roared at it as it grazed their skins.

“As it approached the last world it is spied and coveted by many and magics are used to steal it away from those that would have it as their own. The interference of the people of Bulceephar called to it and wrestled with the Magics of the Mora Mari who sought to bring it to the pit of blood that they had created and give it strength through that blood in their sacred place. Yet the magic of the City in the Sand broke the comet, shattering it into fragments and pieces, each containing essence and power intended for one place and one with one purpose. However that was not your question: You seek the styles of Arcana Stone and I can tell you this:” Here the voice paused as though in some deep contemplation and at the edge of their hearing the keenest of senses could just make out the whispering of conversation, a debate perhaps although the tones of those voices were so similar as to make them wonder if they were in fact one person addressing themselves.

“The Pure Gold of the Comet is its living heart, the sacrifice of the Gillieabad of each iteration and which can only be reached through the Jambiya and the understanding of the correlations of the Ley Lines. This knowledge lies in the crafting of the White Table that was recovered recently in the confines of the Raising of Ekimelahw. The Blue is the Magic of Self Sacrifice of the soldiers of the Gillieabad and that does not exist here and will not for many years to come, but in your time it spreads slowly through the Nexus, storing that power. The Green is the colour of the many in one and exists only in one place, in the fragment that fell into the desert but that is now within the confines of the Great City.” Once more the quiet and the strange whispering from across some great distance, the same voice? Two voices, the same…

“The final materials that you need can be obtained by myself, it has been discussed and will be made available to you on your return to the Keep. But you must understand, it is of the greatest importance, that the Quarzarian will split between the two fates when the moment occurs and then both leaders will have access to what is known but only one may craft the mask. The fate that completes will remove that certainty from the other and gain the strength and the power that comes with it. However there are complications, as one would expect, from the rampant nature and power of fate.”

“You are right when you assume that Archibald Urdergrithe is coming for you, he is moments away from your discovery. His fate consumes your own, faster and faster as you travel back to the moment. Whether you succeed there or not that fate may have taken enough of a hold on the world that the two may exist in conflict. The three locations of the Arcana Stones may be enveloped by the world of Archibald before you can reach them which means that the other Fate will need to be encountered if you will retrieve what you need to make the mask.” There was an audible pause as the comet shook, the walls beginning to take on an unearthly red hue. “Now is the time he discovers the truth about the comet and the Mora Mari but you will still leave here. Safely.”

Archie and Archibald had come for them then: The shadow of the great warrior cast against the reddening walls, the glow of his eyes seeking the chambers. They had all felt the pull of power familial from the Keep that had summoned them back to Dazaks runabout and Archie whose silhouette was far less imposing as he had swung the vessel about. A great deal of the guts of the ship had been removed from the walls and re-imagined as other parts of the machinery although to what end even Mathias could not say. Archie had harried them as to their actions and told them bluntly that they were leaving before they had jumped back to the Keep, coming slowly into dock before the crew had ported them back to the bridge where they now stood assembled waiting to take their next action.

Actions as previously noted from the bridge.
