Hello Wonderfolk of the World,

Welcome to the Sunday Night Message which we hope finds you in fine form, fetlock and fettle and that you have had the best week that you can wherever you were and whatever you were doing. Once again the RoC team are in recovery mode as we put ourselves back together after another event in the woods. Heavens knows how we are going to feel when we get back to two day events!

We’ll kick off this message offering huge thanks to our Patreons and to our Twitch Subs alongside everyone else that supports the Rising and what it stands for. Your money helps us get content out, kit for games and everything else but mainly lets us operate counselling programs for anyone that needs them, provide therapy and free games for frontline emergency service folks among many similar bits and bobs. If you are those emergency services, need help or want to help out drop us a line in any of the places at the end of this message.

With that said let’s move on! We’ll be discussing more than just this message as we plan ahead for the week and for the coming of July:

Continuing in its new timeslot the Monday Morning Meeting will be between 10 and 11am BST on Twitch as team members meet up to discuss the plans of the week, the month and generally natter. They will even talk to you too if you ask them questions – That’s here on Monday Mornings. Have your say, ask questions and help us shape the future of what we are doing together.

Regardless: Each of our Rising sections are covered by our various organisers who you can contact and talk to via our Discord Server or just a straightforward e-mail.

The Rising of Calodemon

The wonderful woods that we are graced to steward were full of LARPers this weekend and we had a good chance to chat through the plans for the site. It seems likely that there are going to be some big changes on the way.

Firstly we got to stroll across the field and onto the site this weekend which made a huge difference! Rather than walking all the way up to the main gate and then through the woods to the site, which took a little time, we could walk straight out of the car park, across the next door field and into the reception area which took about three minutes. That was lovely.

Secondly we have word that in the next four weeks Calodemon can expect its first toilets on site AND a parachute canopy for one of the main areas which means that we can start to run our standard two day events. That is all of the excitement and we hope to have our actual 25 year anniversary (in our own woods) events before the end of the Summer.

Finally the chaps are also talking to the people next door about camping in their field; no guarantees at all yet but we are throwing that out there as a potential because if they let us we can set up a full on tent city and run a good old fashioned Tharinos event. Wouldn’t that be Wizard?

For Holly and her small army of wonder Kobolds the week was a very successful one! First off we Kobolds wish our most amazing leader much love and rest, after working her socks off for the last fortnight getting everything ready for the weekend she was struck low by illness and couldn’t make the event at the weekend. We missed the lovely Bumblebeans and look forward to her return.

After that we’ll also say a massive hello to all the new peeps that have been slaloming into the world of CODA, it has been aces to meet so many of you over the last few months and enjoy your enthusiasm for our stories. We also welcome back a whole host of players, crew and general old faces and are brimming over with keen for the new games that we have coming up through the summer.

We’ll start the CODA run by throwing our hats in the air and congratulating the ref of the weekend, Jon Wickenden for an excellent job well done. Jon has been up and coming through Holly’s ranks of refs and has taken his place as a lead story teller which is a role well deserved.

Alongside Jon we offer gratitude and thanks to Anthony Gunfield for supreme efforts as a Crew Wrangler and leader in the field. For Mike Roberts not just his efforts as crewfolk but also for all of his tireless days sorting out character packs for the players. To AC Day and Dave Cowley, the latter of whom was a last minute jump in, for their wonderful crewing and finally to the man in the crew room. Stephen Canfield who was also there to take pictures, create a fabulous crew room and wander past players slowly with an axe to beat up different players. Outstanding.

We’ll throw out a debrief for the event later in the week, most likely Wednesday, but until then: That was a corker of a day, the system really feels like it is finding its feet after the lockdown and making its way onto a new site. We are all very glad that we did not rush things and waited till we were ready to go and we can’t wait to go again!

Highlights as shouted out to us by the various crew:

  • We loved the final scene, it was a well constructed and orchestrated combat and really flowed well
  • The Krakenite/Corrigunite judgement scene and the follow up Voice of the Drowned, defender and offer a Seer was really beautiful.
  • Stephen’s sneaky axe behind the back, nonchalant bad guy
  • Rufkhar didn’t appeal to a dark power, become possessed and try to kill everyone this week approach to the event

There is definitely more but we can get to that on Discord.

That’s not all though! The next event is just around the corner and will see Stephen take back the reigns as he puts on a show in the next Relics storyline event: The Hall of the Dreaming King. This will be the crescendo event of season one and apparently much worth the wait – Tickets are on sale and running out as you read!

So what else have we been up to/can you expect this week?

Rules changes have been updated to the Webpage and there is now a rules update channel on Discord to take you through that. The Codafying special this Wednesday will be covering the changes that have been made and the whys as well as clarifying a whole host of plot and mechanics. If you have questions and are a patreon; remember that you can post those ahead of time in the Patreon channels.

Codafying went well last week and looked at Kalashinka, this week the species theme will continue as we look at the Orcish peoples and the, apparently, unusual slant that CODA takes on them. That will be live at 9 on Tuesday Morning and available on the Twitch channel for two weeks after.

Larping up that Hill also went awesomely well last week and saw a return for Mark and Stephen alongside the wonderful Holly on the Rising of Conversation Podcast. They will be back next week with the potential of a special guest on Thursday Morning at 10.30 BST.

The teams will be in and around Discord helping out those that need and generally listening to froth. If you need some of this wonderful assistance go and find them and they will see what they can do for you.

Ok – So  that’s the week in a nutshell: It looks like the world may well be a hard place to be in at the moment so with that in mind we will be trying to keep the office manned as much as possible on Discord. If you need people, company, nonsense or an ear please feel free to come and find us.

You can find us easily enough:

Till the next time we talk: Have a Foxes and Crows week people, we look forward to seeing all of you somewhere in the world whether that be in the woods or on Discord.

Much Love

Take Care of Each Other
