The below skills are all categorised as ‘magical skills’ – designed to augment and enhance a character’s ability to wield the realms of magical power which exist in Vaklam.

A character must have Cast Magic to purchase any of the other skills on this list. Some skills, such as Greater Learning, must be purchased individually for each Realm to which they apply if a character can use more than one Realm. These are noted in the skill description where applicable.

The amount of times each skill can be purchased will vary based on your archetype. Refer to your OCS and ensure that you do not have more purchases than the ‘Max Buy’ column!

Tier 1+ Skills

Backlash Enhancement

EDV: 2
Availability: Tier 1+

Add +1 suit to all backlash checks.

Cast Magic

EDV: 3
Availability: Tier 1+

Choose a Style of Magic from Source, Focus, Weave, Wyld or Psionic.
The character gains the ability to cast that magic.
May cast 0 and 1 Magnitude Spells.
May make Backlash Checks: This does not allow you to add any suits to the Backlash Card which must be done with the suits indicated
May  make Casting Checks on Feat Sheets: This does not allow you to add any suits to the Feat sheet which must be done with the suits indicated

Casting Enhancement

EDV: 2
Availability: Tier 1+

Add +1 suit to all casting checks.

Defiance

EDV: 2
Availability: Tier 1+

Gain 1 point of Defiance

Expulsion of the Flesh

EDV: 2
Availability: Tier 1+

The Character may attempt to cure any Magical Injuries from a Wound Card. Caster MUST attach a Feltek Device by the two prongs to the patients most damaged location and by roleplaying the use of the pump expel the magical energies out into the atmosphere. Use a casting check for this skill as though you were a Chirurgeon.

Greater Learning

EDV: 4
Availability: Tier 1+

Prerequisites: Each Word must be approved by the ref team. In addition, to purchase more than one level of Greater Learning the character must have spent 30 or more Endeavour on Magical Skills.

The character gains access to one additional Transcendental Core or Combat Word. This skill must be purchased separately for each Realm.

Lesser Learning

EDV: 2
Availability: Tier 1+

Prerequisites: Each Word must be approved by the ref team.

The character gains access to one additional Support Word. This skill must be purchased separately for each Realm.


Tier 2+ Skills

Backlash Mastery

EDV: 3
Availability: Tier 2+

Through roleplaying, appropriate to the effect of Backlash suffered and casting to the MAG of the Backlash suffered to drive back the effect a caster may negate another’s Backlash 1/day

Battle Magic

EDV: 2
Availability: Tier 2+

The character may ignore 1 interruption to casting for each level of skill purchased.

Concordant Casting

EDV: 2
Availability: Tier 2+

Gain access to the Concordant Casting table. This skill must be purchased for each Realm separately.

Magnitude Enhancement

EDV: 3
Availability: Tier 2+

The character increases the magnitude of spell they can cast by 1. This skill must be purchased separately for each Realm.

Shared Strength

EDV: 2
Availability: Tier 2+

Prerequisites: 3 points of Defiance.

The character may now meld Defiance between themselves and another Caster of the same realm, either giving Defiance to the other character or taking it from them if they are willing. This takes 30 seconds per point and may be achieved once per day for each time the skill is purchased.

Sovereign Casting

EDV: 2
Availability: Tier 2+

Gain access to the Sovereign Casting table. This skill must be purchased separately for each Realm.

Tier 4+ Skills

Resistant Soul

EDV: 2
Availability: Tier 4+

Negate any controlling effect targeted at you during this scene. This increases the magnitude you pull for by 2.

Shielded Soul

EDV: 2
Availability: Tier 4+

Any effect that would kill you instead puts you in a 10 second death count.

Hidden Strength

EDV: 2
Availability: Tier 4+

The character may now always cast Magnitude 0 and 1 spells.
