Hunter
The trade routes of the six Duchies carry provisions across the vast of the Royal Basin, providing sustenance and a great range of luxuries and delights to the cities and townships that dwell therein. In this way are the needs of the peoples met and their appetites fulfilled at least that is what the majority of the city folk would believe. However war has damaged the land, war and death , the lives of hundreds of thousands who have fallen to evil. The land has suffered in turn and still more, past those who died, suffer for the loss: Starvation, plague and famine stalk the forgotten townships and the lawless places where only the skilled, the strong and the lucky manage to survive. Each member of these villages are productive parts of these societies; weavers, wood cutters, charcoal burners and the like but few are capable of producing food enough to sustain a population especially if the able bodied have been crippled by war. In these places the aldermen and the villages alike turn to the masters of the wilderness to feed them: The Hunters.
Not to be confused with the legendary Hunter’s Guild, these folk are trained in the expertise of tracking game, surviving the harshest of winters and living from the land when the land appears barren. In most wilderness areas the hunters are the most sought after and celebrated members of an area being shared between several townships and in each one being treated as though they were a hero. A hunter brings not only food but also hope to a community; should a child go missing it is to them that they turn, should their homes be breached by winter storm, a hunter can patch the thatch and find dry wood for fires. There is no Hunters organisation, there are no buildings that celebrate their skills but there are most certainly skills passed down through word of mouth and habit. From Mother to son and Father to Daughter, from Mistress to Protégé as the need calls, the Hunters and their skills move on. They are the unsung heroes of Daer Akmir and always well be.
